Firstly, a huge thanks to our brilliant team, who worked tirelessly to migrate our applications to the Cloud. Together, we poured our heart and soul into the Cloud migration effort, and it paid off big time! 💖🏆
😍 At Team’22 Las Vegas, Atlassian made an exciting revelation – the future is in the Cloud! And guess what? We couldn’t be more enthusiastic about it!
🚀 So a year ago, we made a resolute decision: it’s time to migrate to the Cloud! So, our team swiftly connected with the experts from Atlassian Migration to embark on comprehensive research, identifying all the essential tasks to make this migration a reality.
📋💪 Within just a few weeks, we successfully uncovered all the pre-migration tasks and wasted no time in getting them done! Our sights were set on migrating our beloved Jira and Confluence applications with the Cloud Migration Assistant app. We also carefully picked the apps we’d continue using in the Cloud. Drum roll, please! 🥁 They included Scriptrunner, BigPicture, Tempo, JSU, JMWE, EasyBI, and some of our own developed apps for Jira. Meanwhile, for Confluence, we opted for Draw.io, Table Filter and Charts, and Handy Macros! 🌪️💼
🌊😅 Of course, the journey wasn’t without its challenges. We had to perform several test migrations. In addition to the work we did for our customers, it took us months! We gained valuable insights, like the need to enable various dark features to migrate dashboards and boards seamlessly. During the tests, we encountered some issues with external user migration, and we also had to find a workaround for migrating permission schemes.
💡💪 While we automated a significant part of the migration with Atlassian’s Cloud Migration Assistants, there were still manual tasks involved, such as recreating Automations, custom scripts, and handling app migration.
😉🔍 But the real adventure began when it came to dealing with our custom apps in Jira! We overcame the hurdles with gusto – stay tuned, as we’ll share our insights soon!
📅📩 Leading up to the migration, we made sure to keep our team well-informed with pre-migration notifications. We provided clear instructions on what tasks they needed to perform before the big day, ensuring a smooth transition. For example, in the case of Confluence, users were required to publish pages that were utilizing unpublished changes to avoid any data loss.
🎉🎈 Finally in July, the moment we had all been waiting for arrived! Armed with our thorough testing, we were fully prepared for the production migration, which we executed like pros over a swift weekend. 🌈✨
🚀💨 But our journey didn’t end there. We wanted to ensure everyone was onboard and confident with the new Confluence and Jira platforms. So, we rolled out engaging training sessions for our awesome colleagues, empowering them to embrace the full potential of these innovative Cloud solutions. And the feedback we received was music to our ears – they found the new platforms a breeze to use, remarkably efficient, and miles faster than our previous Data Center setups!
